Title: Dreaming in Urbach-Wiethe Patients
Study Institution: University of Cape Town
Brief description of the project
No research exists that investigates sleep architecture or dreaming in the absence of the amygdala. This study includes an exploratory, fine-grained assessment of the emotional life of patients with Urbach-Wiethe disease. Current, unpublished research is suggesting that compensation occurs in Urbach-Wiethe patients. The study aims to investigate the non-cognitively (non-cortically), endogenously generated affective process of dreaming to explore the neuroplastic compensations that may account for the intact affective performances of Urbach-Wiethe patients.
