eHealth Research and Innovation Platform (eHRIP)
The MRC has created a new platform within the Technology & Innovation Directorate by integrating Biomedical Informatics Research, Health Informatics Research & Development, Web & Media Technologies and Telemedicine.
The eHealth Research and Innovation Platform (eHRIP) focuses on the development of eHealth research, applications and services within the framework of the strategic health objectives of the MRC, which support those of South Africa, Southern Africa and developing countries in general.
eHRIP continues the development of its existing core competencies and flagship projects in telemedicine, informatics, and web and media technologies while simultaneously developing new integrated competencies and innovative eHealth products and services such as an integrated telemedicine and informatics competence, best practice models for knowledge transfer, open source health software integration, a cyber-laboratory and bio-surveillance systems. In addition eHRIP consolidates existing training and capacity development, including the introduction of eLearning, tele-education and video conferencing solutions for eHealth training and capacity development in remote locations.
