Malaria Research Programme
Durban
3-year contract
The Medical Research Council strives to improve the nation’s health and quality of life through promoting and conducting relevant and responsive health research.
The Malaria Research Programme based in Durban is involved in national and international collaborations researching a wide range of malaria related issues including entomology and the epidemiology of malaria transmission. The programme would like to recruit the following specialised staff to assist with ongoing research and coordination:
Purpose: The programme seeks to appoint an Epidemiologist to contribute towards research capacity development in the field of malaria epidemiology. Extensive collaboration and on-site training will be provided to ensure that the incumbent is equipped with the necessary skills to become involved in modelling malaria transmission.
Requirements:
- the ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in Biology or Public Health and be willing to embark on studies leading towards a PhD in Epidemiology
- strong mathematical ability as well as the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- the ability to contribute towards research translation within the unit
- good verbal and written communication skills
- appropriate computer skills especially with statistical packages such as STATA or SPSS
- willingness to travel extensively both nationally and internationally is necessary in order to participate in self development activities.
- Experience in working within a research environment and the ability to manage own projects is recommended.
A cost-to-company remuneration package in the region of R245 984 - R264 433 per annum will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience.
